From the Expert: Very important!
Annual evaluations and performance reviews often influence promotions, assignments, and career progression, so you will want to approach writing your reviews seriously. Keep these things in mind:
- You know you better than anyone else, which means you are more familiar than anyone with your specific accomplishments and significant achievements.
- Who better to brag on you than you? Use those key performance reviews and evaluations to home in on key skills and accomplishments … and add the “so what” to your résumé and/or CV.
- Be sure to incorporate metrics, either qualitative or quantitative. These help the reader understand the significance of what is being conveyed.
- Demonstrate the skills that allowed you to be organized throughout the year with action words such as “resolved,” “managed,” or “streamlined.” These action words demonstrate your ability to step up to the plate and ensure the most useful approach is implemented to achieve goals.
- Did you earn a professional certification during the appraisal year? Be sure to include it in those annual evaluations and performance reviews.
