From the Expert: It’s a great time to assess both your contribution amounts and your fund allocations. The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and other similar civilian retirement plan contribution limits typically reset at the beginning of each year. For 2025, the new limit is $23,500.

There are new catch-up contribution limits in 2025. For those ages 50 to 59 or 64 and up, the limit is $31,000. But those who are 60 to 63 can make even larger contributions this year, up to $34,750.

You should also rebalance your portfolio at least once a year, making sure your asset allocations are still where you want them to be. If you don’t know what funds you are holding in your account, now is a great time to check!
