From the Expert: The most important element to landing a job at any point in one’s career journey is a strong network. Why? Statistics indicate that over 80% of jobs are landed through one’s personal or professional network.

In addition to having a robust network, the following elements are also critical to finding a fulfilling career outside of the military:

  • Know your core strengths and the type of work that makes you thrive.
  • Understand your value and what you uniquely bring to the workplace AND be able to succinctly communicate it.
  • Develop an accomplishments-based, versus a responsibility-based résumé.
  • Practice interviewing.
