Submitted by the Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter
Since 2014, the Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter of MOAA has raised through its annual fundraising golf event nearly $850,000 for local organizations that support the veteran and military community. The Fred White Memorial Veterans Benefit Golf Outing (VBGO) generated over $82,000 in donations and sponsorships from local businesses and donors in 2024.
“The VBGO would not have been possible without the major donors, sponsors, and volunteers who assisted with this major event,” said Maj. Gen. Dan Ammerman, USA (Ret), chapter programs director and chairman of the VBGO committee. Volunteers included chapter members and their spouses and family members, local volunteer groups, and interested parties.
According to Ammerman, the intent of the VBGO is to generate financial resources to be distributed to vetted and deserving veteran nonprofit service organizations.
Each applicant organization provides a needs assessment and a projected use plan for any resources provided to them through the grant application process. Entities who receive a grant are also required to provide a financial report at the end of the funding cycle that identifies the actual uses of grant funding.

The chapter presented its 2024 grants to 11 nonprofit veteran services organizations in December. All 11 organizations are located within the chapter’s 20-county service area of northeastern Wisconsin. They include Camp American Legion, Fox Valley Veterans Council, Northeastern Wisconsin Veterans Treatment Court, Outagamie County Veterans Treatment Court, Sheboygan Area Veterans Court, H.O.O.A.H. Wisconsin, Old Glory Flight in Appleton, Disabled American Veterans of Wisconsin, Veterans 1st of Northeast Wisconsin, Door County Farm for Vets, and Wisconsin Veterans of Foreign Wars Unmet Needs Program.
“I think it’s great that we as a military officers club can help other veteran services organizations, but I think what is even better is what these organizations do for the veterans in our local communities,” Ammerman said.
The Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter is currently planning its 12th annual Fred White Memorial Veterans Benefit Golf Outing, scheduled for July 28 at Oneida Golf & Country Club.
