Servicemembers worldwide will share nearly 700,000 pounds of traditional Thanksgiving fare in 2024, nearly double the amount shipped by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) last year.
The increase comes from a larger presence in Europe, according to a DoD news article on the massive holiday menu.
"Many of our service men and women are far away from their loved ones during the holidays, and we need to make sure they have that traditional Thanksgiving dinner," DLA Troop Support Commander Brig. Gen. Landis Maddox, USA, said in the article. "I am proud of the work we do here at DLA Troop Support to make that happen, and I am grateful that we can get a taste of home to our warfighters on this holiday."

Military dining facilities worldwide will cook up 139,665 pounds of turkey, per the article, putting the bird in second place for main courses behind 176,791 pounds of beef. Other holiday food totals include:
- 98,091 pounds of ham
- 49,055 pounds of shrimp
- 46,753 pounds of sweet potatoes
- 9,324 cases of pies and cakes
- 1,004 cases of eggnog
Navy Supply Systems Command provided an even more detailed breakdown on holiday food afloat this Thanksgiving, with culinary specialists set to cook up 44,815 pounds of roast turkey aboard ships worldwide.

And don’t forget the sides: 11,457 pounds of mashed potatoes, 5,654 pounds of stuffing, 21,906 pounds of sweet potatoes, 6,630 pounds of green bean casserole, and 4,606 pounds of cranberry sauce, per the news release.
The dishes likely won’t be clean before the holiday supply chain kicks back into gear: Last year, DLA delivered nearly 55,000 pounds of roasted turkey and almost 79,000 pounds of ham for Christmas.
