Military retirees and annuitants already should have access to some of their 2024 tax forms via the myPay portal, according to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), with other tax materials available by the end of January.

IRS Form 1099-Rs for retirees, annuitants, and former spouses went online via myPay on Dec. 17, according to DFAS, which published a myPay rollout list of tax documents Dec. 10.

Hard copies (for those who’ve chosen regular mail delivery) will be sent by Jan. 31, according to DFAS. Some other key tax-document availability dates for myPay users:

  • Jan. 8: W-2s for reservists in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force
  • Jan. 17: W-2s for Marines (active and reserve) and active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force members
  • Jan. 21: IRS Form 1095s for servicemembers and retirees; Army Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) W-2s
  • Jan. 24: Civilian W-2s; Savings Deposit Program (SDP) 1099INTs

The VA does not issue tax statements, as VA benefits are not taxable.

Reprints and Questions

DFAS myPay users should be able to download their current tax forms as well as prior 1099-R forms for at least two years. If you need a form reissued, the AskDFAS portal may offer a self-service option. Reissued tax forms for 2024 won’t be available until February.
