MOAA’s Member Spotlight has been going strong for nearly three years and more than 150 entries, but there are always more stories to tell — and that’s why we need your help.
The regular feature in MOAA’s weekly newsletter began in February 2020, offering a glimpse at the good deeds members perform in their community, both as individuals and as part of MOAA’s network of councils and chapters. The feature also includes monthly contributions from MOAA’s Surviving Spouse Advisory Council, offering guidance on survivors issues, advocacy efforts, MOAA national events, and much more.
You can find all the member spotlight entries at this link. A few highlights from 2022 include members who:
- Traveled to Ukraine as part of nonprofit assistance and relief efforts, including a retired Army lieutenant colonel working alongside Ukrainian bomb technicians.
- Helped Afghan refugees, from sponsoring families to collecting donated airline miles to assisting in evacuation efforts.
- Defied age (or even gravity) with physical achievements in their golden years.
- Made a difference in the lives of wounded warriors, or honored the memory of fallen heroes.
- Reached out to young people in their communities, through traditional and nontraditional methods.
If you have a story to tell — about yourself, a fellow member, or a council or chapter outreach effort —we want to help spread the word. Send details to Contributing Editor Blair Drake at blaird@moaa.org; high-resolution images (with names and titles of all individuals pictured) are appreciated.
While we can’t share every story, we hope to continue shining the spotlight on deserving members of the MOAA family in 2023. But we can’t do it without your input — reach out today!
