Information is truly key, especially in times of change and career transition.

There are a ton of free professional resources available to the uniformed services community. MOAA, in partnership with fellow nonprofit ACT NOW Education, highlighted a few of these resources in a recent webinar. If you missed it, no worries: Click here to access a recording.

Featured guest speaker Jai Salters founded ACT Now Education to provide free, comprehensive educational resources and opportunities for servicemembers (active, Guard, and Reserve), veterans, military spouses, survivors, and their children. It is critical to connect veterans and their families with the wide range of available resources.

The webinar focused on benefits, career transition, education, employment, housing, peer engagement, and networking topics. A few highlights:

  • Certifications: While they may read like alphabet soup to those outside a given career field, professional certifications (Sec+, CEH, PRH, SHRM, PMP, AWS, and so on) are critical to success in certain industries. ACT Now Education collaborates with Coursera to provide the military community with free access to 26 certifications, and more than 5,000 online courses; click here for details.

  • Mentoring: Myriad opportunities for career counseling and networking are available for the military community. American Corporate Partners (ACP), for example, offers a yearlong mentorship program with dozens of participating companies.

  • Networking: The vast majority (80% to 85%) of folks get their post-military job through networking. MOAA offers many network-building resources, including ways to improve your LinkedIn presence.

  • Knowing Your Value: It’s up to you to take the skillsets we all have from military experience and translate them into a language understood by those in the civilian sector. MOAA members can get help with this step via a 1-on-1 career consultation.

Along with MOAA’s transition and career resources, free resources are also available on the ACT Now Facebook page.

Salters has provided countless ACT Now Education seminars, from the White House to overseas, and has helped over 33,000 military members and their families with educational training and resources. MOAA is proud to partner with ACT NOW Education in our ongoing efforts to support those who serve.
