The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is taking a step toward better customer service by starting a program to keep us informed on the status of our pay actions.
Details on the notifications were released on the DFAS website.
“We are excited to announce one of our latest improvements,” the website states. “Over the coming year, we are rolling out the use of status notifications to keep you in the loop as forms or documents you submit move through the retired pay or annuitant pay processing cycles.”
Users will receive separate status notifications every time a form or document sent in by the user via mail or fax (or AskDFAS, in some cases) reaches one of three stages, per the website:
- Received and queued in the DFAS work system
- Assigned to be worked
- Completed -- per the DFAS website, this means “a notification the processing is complete or a notification that we are sending you a request for additional information.”

The DFAS article goes on to explain the benefits we get from this new program, what we must do to get status updates, and what pieces of the program will roll out over the course of the year.
