This is the first round of TRICARE open season. Under a new policy, changes to TRICARE Select or TRICARE Prime can only be made during the enrollment period, unless there is a “qualifying life event” during the year. In previous years, plan changes could be made year-round.

Qualifying life events include: the birth of a child; loss of other health insurance; retirement, marriage; or divorce. As Military.com reported earlier this year, you may also update your plan outside of the enrollment period “if you move from an off-base primary-care provider to one within the Military Treatment Facility system or vice versa.”

The enrollment season does not apply to TRICARE for Life users.
