A few months ago the Defense Department announced that they were going to start carrying beer and wine at select commissaries by this summer ... and the people rejoiced.

Because what's better than affordable beer and wine at the Exchange or Shoppette? Saving yourself an extra stop by buying it at the commissary.
But at the time they didn't release the locations of those first stores. So we've just been hanging out, waiting for the day they tell us whether or not our commissary will be one of the first to conveniently place the beer right down the lane for the cheap potato chips.
Today is that day.
The twelve commissaries that will carry beer and wine by the end of the month are:
The stores are:
- Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California
- Port Hueneme Naval Base, California
- Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri
- Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada
- Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey
- White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico
- Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina
- Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee
- Joint Base San Anontio's Fort Sam Houston commissary, Texas
- Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall, Virginia
- Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek- Fort Story, Virginia
- Quantico Marine Corps Base, Virginia
Your base not on the list? Do not fear! This test will run for 90 days, and then officials plan to roll it out to the rest of the stateside system, says Kevin Robinson, a Defense Commissary Agency spokesman.
