Two programs administrated by the Social Security Administration -- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) -- may help provide income when you and your family need it the most.

To ensure you and your loved ones receive the benefits you've earned, you need to understand how the programs work, who is eligible for them, and how to apply. Join Lila Quintiliani, MOAA’s program director for financial and benefits education/counseling, and special guests Tim Grieb and Trisha Mentzer, social insurance specialists for the External Affairs Team of Social Security Administration’s Office of Communications, as they provide:

  • An introduction to the Social Security program.
  • A look at SSDI, including the differences between this program and VA disability compensation.
  • An overview of the SSI program.
  • A discussion of benefits for your spouse and/or children, as well as survivor benefits.
  • Details on how to apply for all of the above.
  • Ways to protect yourself from fraud, including how to avoid falling victim to Social Security-themed scams.
