… to the Heritage Hunt (Va.) Chapter, which has awarded $17,500 in scholarships to local Junior ROTC cadets since the inception of its program in 2011. We hear the initial scholarship amount of $500 was increased to $1,000 in spring of 2016 because of the generosity of the chapter’s members.

… to the Heart of Texas Chapter who with the Good Soldier Foundation awarded the Spirit of America Medal to Junior ROTC (JROTC) Cadet Ismael Lopez for saving a fellow cadet earlier this year. Lt. Col. Alexandria Monroy, the JROTC battalion commander at University High, almost was hit during a track meet at Baylor University by a hammer thrower’s practice toss. Lopez pushed Monroy out of the way of the 10-pound piece of metal.
Kudos for honoring this cadet’s quick actions!

Camp Corral. Camp Corral provides free summer camp for children ages 8-15 in military families. Priority is given to children in a family with a wounded, disabled, or fallen servicemember.
