Stuart D. White was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and died in Vienna, Virginia. He was married to Maria-Theresia “Resi” Aubart of Bitburg, Germany.

He was a Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol Cadet and Pilot from 1943-1950, obtaining his Private Pilot’s License in 1948. He received the first Billy Mitchell Award. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard from 1948-50. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in August 1950. He was assigned to radar mechanic training at Keesler AFB; and then to Barksdale AFB; and in 1952, he attended Pilot training in Bainbridge, Georgia. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1953 and was assigned to Gary AFB for Helicopter training.

As a Helicopter pilot, he was assigned to the 83rd Air Rescue, in Spangdahlem, Germany from 1953-57. He conducted rescue missions in the French Alps, the Netherlands, and in Austria. In 1958 he was assigned as Chief, Helicopter Rescue Squadron, 1st Ops, Selfridge AFB; then, in 1960, as the Michigan State Search and Air Rescue coordinator. In 1962, he was assigned as Commanding Officer Detachment 26, Central Air Rescue Region. Major White earned a B.G.E. degree from the University of Omaha in 1962.

He was assigned as an Advisor to the Vietnam National Forces Saigon, from 1963-64; and as a staff officer completing 114 combat support missions. He was assigned as the U.S. Air Force liaison officer to the Civil Air Patrol, New York Wing from 1964-66; as Director of Training Northeast Region from 1966-68; and to the Clark AFB, 13th Air Force Command Center in 1968; and beginning in 1969 he performed duties as the Base Chief Scheduling Officer. Major White retired in 1970.

His decorations included the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army of Occupation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Small Arms Marksmanship Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Federal Aviation Administration, Executive Pilot, National Airport: 1971-90.

Major White was rated NA B-25s, T-29s, C-47s, H-19s, H-53s, and H-34s. His certifications included Airline Transport, Commercial, flight and instrument instructor for Multi-engine Land, Single-engine Land and Sea, Rotorcraft Helicopter, flight instructor for Glider, and Free Balloon pilot. He was rated in the DC-3, Cessna 240, 340, 440, 500; Gulfstream 159, 1159-B; Jet Star L-1329, Lear Jet, Bell BH-47, BH-206; Sikorsky SK-76. He trained in aircraft security and contemporary terrorism. He was an NRA small arms instructor, and held a Hap-Ki-Do Black Belt.

He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Air Force Association, the Air Rescue Association, the Balloon Federation of America, the British Balloon and Airship Club, the Civil Air Patrol, the Soaring Society of America, the Twirly Birds, the USAF Helicopter Pilot Association and the Military Officers Association of America.
