Colonel Reichert entered the Army Air Force in 1941. As a combat fighter pilot in World War II, he served in the European and Mediterranean theaters. His decorations included two Bronze Stars and three Air Medals. After the war, he had various posts dealing with education and community relations. His last assignment was as manpower director of the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
Colonel Reichert spent 25 years in the service before retiring in 1966. From then until 1971, he was dean for business affairs and college development at Charles County Community College. He was executive director of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce from 1973 until he retired in 1977.
Colonel Reichert also served seven years on the Maryland State Veterans Commission and was a president of the Maryland Retired Officers Association. Additionally, he served as the chairman of the Boy Scouts of America for the Southern Maryland region, and received its Silver Beaver Award.
A resident of Charles County, Maryland since 1966, Colonel Reichert was born in Ohio. He received a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in public administration from The George Washington University.
He was finance chairman of the La Plata United Methodist Church, a Mason, and a past president of the La Plata Lions Club.
Mrs. Winifred Reichert established a designated scholarship in memory of her husband.
