1906 – 1983

Because of his ROTC years at the University of Maine, “Nick” Nickerson felt it was his duty to go into the Army following the attack on Pearl Harbor, even though he would not have been drafted due to his family status. He remained in the Army until the end of World War II. He was a Captain in the USA when he was released from active duty and remained in the Inactive Reserve.

His teaching years began in Maine in the 1930’s and continued in Texas after the War. The education of all was his ultimate goal and, when he retired at the age of 65, he had succeeded with a multitude of students.

A designated scholarship was established in his memory by his daughter, CAPT Lois Nickerson, USN (Ret.). She requested that “the scholarship be given to a student to pursue his or her goal.”
