Susan R. Collins has dedicated her life to service, learning, and community. A graduate of Norwich University with an associate degree in Medical Administration, Susan’s journey began in Northfield, Vt., where she met her husband, Wesley T. Collins. Together, they embarked on a life with the Air Force, navigating the unique challenges of military life, from frequent relocations and temporary duty assignments to enduring short-term separations.
Amid these transitions, Susan continued her educational pursuits, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland’s European Division while stationed in Germany. She later attained a graduate degree in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s College of Maine.
Susan’s professional career spans 38 years in health care administration, specializing in health information management. She holds several certifications from prominent industry associations, including the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Passionate about mentorship, Susan has shared her expertise as a college-level instructor throughout her career. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life, as she actively volunteered in various military, community, and church organizations.
After her husband Wesley’s passing, Susan relocated to Lancaster County, Pa., to be closer to family. Since arriving, she has channeled her experience and compassion into supporting other surviving military spouses. Initially joining as the Lancaster Chapter MOAA Surviving Spouse Liaison, she later became the Pennsylvania Council of Chapters Surviving Spouse Liaison.
In addition to her volunteer work, Susan obtained her Pennsylvania real estate license. She enjoys staying connected with her two adult daughters and three grandchildren.
