Maj. Gen. George A. Alexander, USA (Ret), retired from the National Guard in October 2005, culminating his career as deputy surgeon general in the Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters, Department of the Army. He completed pre-medical studies at Columbia College and received a doctor of medicine degree from Howard University.
He served in a variety of operational and staff assignments including as a Special Forces doctor, flight surgeon, commander of a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, Combat Support Hospital, Medical Detachment, and service as assistant surgeon general.
During his career he also worked at the National Institutes of Health and the White House. He is the author/co-author of more than 70 scientific and medical articles, book chapters, and abstracts. He resides in Alexandria, Va.
