Mission

The missions of the chapter shall be to promote the purposes and objectives of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) primarily at the local level; foster fraternal relations among retired, active and former officers of the uniformed services and the National Guard and Reserve Components; protect the rights and interest of the active duty, retired, Reserve and National Guard personnel of the uniformed services and their dependents and survivors; and to serve the community and the nation.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership is open to all active, retired and former commissioned and warrant officers of our Armed Forces to include the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and US Public Health Service and their National Guard and Reserve Components. Dues are $20.00 per calendar year. Those interested may contact our Membership Chair listed below.

Chapter Activities

The Chapter meets twice per month, September through April, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Missoula. The Lunch/Business Meeting begins at 11:30 am on the 3rd Friday of each month with a speaker from the community. The Social Hour is on the 2nd Friday of each month at 6:00 pm. We hold our Annual Banquet in May with a special guest speaker and installation of officers. See "GENERAL INFORMATION" below for more information. This chapter has been a strong supporter of the ROTC program at the University of Montana, providing scholarships for cadets. Our members have played key roles in: • coordinating the State of Montana and the Veterans Administration to approve the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula; • building the Montana Korean War Memorial; • assisting Missoula’s Valor House, a new veteran’s transitional housing unit; • developing a Care Package Program for our warriors in Iraq and Afghanistan; and • providing assistance to spouses of deceased veterans

Legislative Issues

The Montana Legislature will meet in January 2011 and we intent to, once again, address redress taxation of retirement pay for military retirees. This issue will depend greatly upon the state of Montana's economy and the support that we receive from other veterans groups.

About Our Chapter

Western Montana Military Officers Association. – Serving active, reserve, national guard, retired and former officers of the Armed Forces. Following World War II, a group of officers began meeting regularly at the Fort Missoula Officers Club in Missoula, Montana. The group, now formally organized as the Western Montana Military Officers Association (WWMOA) still meets regularly each month. Since 1972, WMMOA has been a chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, one of the most powerful military lobbying organizations in Washington, D.C. Our chapter, the only one in Montana, is essentially autonomous and self supporting, dedicated to serving the interests of all active, form and retired, National Guard and Reserve officers, as well as their spouses and survivors. Through its various committees and auxiliary, the chapter sponsors a wide range of programs and activities throughout the year.
