Mission

River Valley Chapter's general mission is to support all current, former, and retired members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors, and to serve as advocates for a strong national defense. The chapter also provides useful services to its members and their communities.

Information on Joining the Chapter

River Valley Chapter membership is open to anyone who has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. For additional information and/or membership application call Bob Edwards at 479-967-8720 or Email bobandcarolyn@suddenlink.net.

Chapter Activities

The chapter participates in community Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities and awards a $1,000 college scholarship each year to a child or grandchild of a service member or veteran. A total of $9,500 in scholarships has been awarded since 2000. The chapter also supports ROTC and JROTC programs at Arkansas Tech University and Dardanelle High School. It has representatives on the "Salute to Freedom Task Force," a community group that plans and coordinates activities in support of active service members, veterans, and their families. The chapter typically sponsors a membership holiday party to coincide with Thanksgiving or Christmas season festivities.

Legislative Issues

The chapter supports MOAA's national legislative agenda and state and local programs that benefit uniformed services members, veterans, families and survivors. Congressional leaders, state legislators, and other public officials are invited regularly to attend meetings and address the chapter. Members are encouraged to communicate directly with elected officials at all levels of government on issues concerning the uniformed services and veterans. The chapter also supports the Arkansas Council of Chapters and has two past presidents serving as Council officers.

General Information

The chapter holds casual dress dinner meetings at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of even numbered months at the Western Sizzlin restaurant in Russellville. Meetings typically include a brief business segment followed by a guest speaker on relevant/topical issues or other entertainment. Chapter activities are announced in a bimonthly newsletter, Russellville's daily newspaper, and weekly newspapers in surrounding communities. The newsletter is distributed by Email to members with Internet access, and by postal service to others. Prospective members and guests are welcomed and encouraged to attend any chapter activity.
