The MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter meets at the Chartiers Country Club (601 Baldwin Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205). The Chapter members and their guests get together about six (6) times a year in the Spring and Fall for Sunday luncheon meetings. These luncheon meetings provide camaraderie as well as an opportunity to discuss Chapter business. The luncheons begin with a cash bar at 1300 hours (1:00 PM). A chef prepared meal (meat, fish, and vegetarian options) is served promptly at 1400 hours (2:00 PM).
In addition, a guest speaker is invited to attend and speak on an agreed upon subject for the benefit and information of those attending. Past speaker topics include: a presentation on China: Strategic Choices and Capabilities; the Editor of Proceedings, the naval affairs magazine; a Bagpiper who demonstrated how bagpipes were and are used as a military device in place of bugles; the Commanding Officer of the USS BOXER (LHD-4) who spoke about the Captain Phillips rescue off of Somalia, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Footlocker Outreach Program, a presentation on electric energy efficiency programs and rebates available to members, and many other interesting topics.
The Chapter holds a holiday luncheon in December each year which includes entertainment and a gift exchange.
The Chapter supports 15 JROTC programs and 3 Army/Navy/Air Force ROTC programs. We have supported Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., the Southwest PA & Erie Veterans Homes, Operation Troop Appreciation (“OTA”), as well as the Allegheny County Veterans Court.
