The mission of the Great Plains Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Membership in the Great Plains Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses.

The Great Plains Chapter holds 10 meetings per year featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. A special Christmas party is held each December. In addition the chapter supports 2 ROTC programs at South Dakota State University and the annual Veterans’ Day observance.

The Great Plains Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and we invite our Congressional Representative and Senators to speak to the chapter. The chapter successfully advocated for the naming of US Highway 81, which runs north-south through the state as a Vietnam Memorial Highway.

The Great Plains Chapter meetings are luncheon meetings held on the third Tuesday of the month (September through June), beginning at 11:30 a.m. Most meetings are held at the Sioux Falls VFW club near I229 and Minnesota Avenue.

The Great Plains Chapter was chartered in 2006 and serves the "East River" (eastern one-half) of the state of South Dakota. Meetings are held monthly from September to June in Sioux Falls with occasional meetings and special events scheduled at other times and locations. The Chapter currently has over 100 members scattered across eastern South Dakota.
