Military Spouse, Family and Survivor Fact Sheets

One-page summaries of issues and key bills that most effect survivors, spouses, and military families.

SBP-DIC Offset for Survivors

Congress should repeal the law that reduces military Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuities by the amount of any survivor benefits payable under the VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) program.

Pre-Tax Health and Dependent Care Programs

Authorize equal treatment of currently serving families for pre-tax health and dependent care programs as is already authorized for most civilian and federal employees. However, the Department of Defense (DoD) has yet to put similar rules in place for military members.

Military Family Support

More support is needed for families left behind during contingency operations, especially Guard and Reserve families without access to on-base support facilities.

Spouse Employment

More needs to be done to enhance spouse career options and family financial stability as a result of military-directed moves.

Undue Sacrifice

Conflicting military SBP laws cut the annuities by over a $1,000 a month (requires Flash Player 8).
