Mission

The chapter is part of Minnesota’s Military Action Group (MAG). This is an association of Minnesota industry and military organizations devoted to enhancing the state’s image as a place friendly towards veterans and military retirees. We are also engaged locally with representation in the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC). The Chapter participates in "Storming the Hill," an annual Washington lobbying effort by chapters to benefit active duty, reserve component and retired military, and spouses. It also participates in various state legislative hearings. Members are kept informed on state and national legislation via The MCMOAA 'n, our bimonthly award-winning newsletter.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership to MCMOAA is open to active duty, retired. National Guard and Reserve commissioned and former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, U.S. Public Health Service and NOAA. Surviving spouses of deceased officers and warrant officers are encouraged to join as associate members. For information or a brochure and membership application contact: John Abrahamson COL AUS (ret) at 650-777-7301 or jabecol@aol.com

Chapter Activities

The MOAA Chapter holds 3 meetings a year, in May, July and September, featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. The chapter and its members have supported the Armed Forces Servicemen’s Center at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International airport financially and logistically. Certificates of excellence, scholarships and medals are given to area ROTC and JROTC graduates. The chapter actively participates in Retiree Appreciation Days at numerous sites through out the state. Up coming activities: 21 Ma Chapter meeting

Legislative Issues

As a member of the Military Action Group (MAG), the chapter vigorously presses for legislation to enhance the states image as friendly towards veterans and military retirees. Enhanced educational benefits have been achieved. Free public transportation to all disabled veterans has become a reality. We were successful in having military retired pay exempt from Minnesota state tax.

General Information

All meetings are held at the Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of May, July and September. All meetings start at 1730 hrs. For more information, contact Tom Maxwell, CW4 (Retired), tmax42@comcast.net. The Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club is located at: 1600 Lilydale Road St Paul, MN 55118 (651) 455-3900

About Our Chapter

More than 1,000 officers, warrant officers and surviving spouses belong to the Minnesota Chapter of MOAA. These MCMOAA members add their strength to the total of more than 370,000 active and retired military officers who — nationwide — work together in grassroots support of our earned benefits and the future enhancement of benefits to the active and reserve force and its retirees. They do it by making direct contact with individual legislators at both the state and national levels to effectively protect our military entitlements.
