MOAA members are now eligible for a new life insurance plan that allows those leaving active service to purchase insurance without going through the medical underwriting process.

The Active Service Discharge Group Term Life Insurance Plan, an alternative to Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI), is a new plan endorsed by MOAA. Members younger than age 50 can purchase coverage amounts of $100,000 or $200,000, while members age 50 or older can purchase coverage amounts of $50,000 or $100,000. Medical underwriting is not required if enrollment is within 180 days after discharge and the discharge is not health or disability related.

Spouses also become eligible for the coverage when their servicemember enrolls: They can qualify for 50 percent of the member's benefit amount (maximum of $100,000 for spouses younger than age 50 and $50,000 for spouses age 50 or older).

For information on the Active Service Discharge Group Term Life Insurance Plan, visit the plan's website. For more about other insurance options available to MOAA members, visit MOAA's insurance page.
