Adm. Walter F. Doran, USN (Ret), a native of Albany, N.Y., holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Villanova University. At graduation, he was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy through the Naval ROTC program. He holds a Master of Science in communication from Oklahoma University and completed the master's program in defense studies at Madras University in India. He is also a graduate of the Indian Defense Services Staff College in Tamil Nadu, India, as well as the University of Chicago Executive Program on finance for non-finance majors.
He has served in command positions in the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. He commanded USS DeWert (FFG-45), USS Belknap (CG-26), the U.S. Seventh Fleet, and the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Ashore, he served as military assistant to the vice president and assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Doran joined Raytheon first as Navy service executive in 2005, and in 2006, he was named president of Raytheon Asia. He has served on the board of directors of the Military Child Education Coalition and the U.S. India Business Council.
